New Alarm System

Attention: To all OLOG Volunteers

Important!

As you know, the church and the San Juan Diego building are now set up with an alarm system.

Anyone who has a key to any of the rooms or the church must have an access code to arm and disarm the alarms.

If you do NOT have an access code, YOU ARE NOT TO ACCESS ANY OF THE ROOMS OR THE CHURCH-until you come into the office and have received  training and have an access code. Some of the volunteers will need an extra key.
Contact the parish office and make arrangements with Marina-480-987-0315.

The alarm code key pads are located in:
Highberger Hall: near the North-West door ( door next to the RE office). This arms and disarms Highberger Hall.

Room 3B and Room 4:These arm and disarm rooms 1, 23A, 3B, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8

The Church: in between the door and the window in the sacristy (in front of the sacrarium) This arms and disarms all of the church. You need to enter through this door first to disarm if you need to go to the kitchen!

Please be aware that every time the alarm goes off and the sheriff is sent to the church grounds, And it was not an emergency-we will be fined. The person who set the alarm off will have to pay the fine.

If the alarm is accidently set off, please call the Alarm Company at 480-433-1271. You will be asked to give your password and your access code.

Thank you.

UPDATES ON PARISH MASTER PLAN

Letters with requests for proposals and fixed fees pertaining to our Master Plan for a new church were sent to 25 architectural firms in April. Seven firms responded with information requested and our Building and Master Plan Committee undertook the task to review these proposals.

After our initial meeting, the Committee selected four firms to personally interview. Our Committee is undertaking the task of checking references on work that each firm has done in the Diocese of Phoenix as well as arranging personal interviews. After this process is completed, a firm will be selected to create a Master Plan that will include programming and needs assessment in order to provide for a new sanctuary and parking area on the existing seven acre plus Parish campus. Total time span for completion of this process will be approximately six to eight weeks. Once the firm is selected, then a procedure will be established for seeking parish input on a new church.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Please continue to fulfill your pledges and donations.

Closing of Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy

June 19, 2014

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Statement on the Closing of Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy

The decision to close Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy was made in part due to low enrollment projections and financial considerations. Based on projected budget considerations and enrollment projections, the parish would have been faced with a deficit of nearly $90,000 for fiscal year 2015 (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015), not including maintenance, operational and utility costs that the parish was carrying on behalf of the Academy. Total deficit figures - $140,000.

Before a final decision was made, the Superintendent of Schools from the Diocese was consulted along with the Diocesan Vicar General and the Director of Parish Services. In addition, thorough discussions with members of the Parish Council occurred last Monday evening and previously with the Parish Finance Council. Various models were presented and discussed in hopes of keeping the Academy going. In the end, it came down to low enrollment numbers and poor financial projections that figured in this decision. Additionally, the parish could not submit a negative budget to the Diocese and expect to get approval. Every means available was studied and considered.

We owe a great deal of thanks to the Academy Director, Lisa Wakefield, her most dedicated staff of teachers and aides and to the school parents who made every effort this past school year to keep the Academy afloat. THANK YOU ALL!

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Craig W. M. Friedley

WHAT IS THE OLOG SCRIP PROGRAM?

SCRIP is a nationally recognized fundraising program. Retailers sell gift certificates and cards to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at a discount. OLOG sells the gift cards at full face value to our parishioners and friends. You redeem the gift cards at face value and the discount is retained by OLOG.

Does your household budget include the following expenses? Groceries? Gasoline? Clothing? Household Needs? Restaurants? Of course it must include some or all. Our SCRIP program is offered by hundreds of local and national retailers - where most of you already shop. With every purchase, you earn revenue for OLOG (helping to offset parish expenses) and OLOGA. (reducing your student's tuition bill!)

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Lisa Freidhof has volunteered to run our SCRIP program. She runs a similar program at Seton High School (for 9 years). She has been assisting since mid-March and is most eager to build a super program here. Thank you Lisa, your assistant Patricia and OLOG volunteer sellers.

As of March 31, 2014, OLOG has generated $39,704 in gross revenue from the sale of SCRIP cards. Cost of SCRIP cards sold to date is $34,568. Thus, our gross margin to date is: $5,136. This is a great start. Whether shopping for clothing, home improvement items, entertainment, electronics, or going out to eat, SCRIP is always available to you. Please continue to use this convenient service and help your parish and academy. Cards are available during the week by stopping in the parish office during normal business hours (M - F; 9:00 am -5:00 pm) and on the weekends on the parish grounds before and after Masses.

THANK YOU!

Fry's Community Rewards Program - THANK YOU!

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Following is a report of the Fry's VIP Card Program (rebates realized by OLOG members and friends using the reloadable cards) for quarters one and two. In quarter one, 208 families shopped at a Kroger/Fry's store and OLOG was rewarded with a total of $2,656. During quarter two (12/01/13 - 2/28/14), 226 families participated and the parish has received a check in the amount of $2,215.00. Total dollars realized by the parish over these two quarters have amounted to $4,871.00 or $812.00 per month.

The Fry's VIP Card Program is still in effect with a revised program. The last program had approximately 400 OLOG families participating. You can still participate in this new program - just go to the parish website to sign up or call the parish office (480-987-0315). Remember, the more parishioners and friends that shop at Kroger/Fry's stores - the more money OLOG will earn. We are most thankful to all who have shopped and participated in previous programs and strongly encouraged continued and additional participation. Again, thank you all!

PARISH EXPANSION

UPDATE ON LAND ACQUISITION AND PARISH EXPANSION February 8-9,2014
Dear Parishioners and Friends:

As you are aware, we originally sought your financial support and prayers to acquire land necessary to construct a church and school facility large enough to accommodate our growing parish's needs.

Since we began this process back in September,we have explored several options for purchasing nearby properties for this purpose. Despite our best efforts,we have not been able to acquire property at a reasonable price that would enable to both acquire the land and leave us with sufficient funds to develop the church and school facility that our parish deserves.

We have been working with the Diocese of Phoenix to explore our options, and we have determined that our best alternative is to engineer a new facility on our own parish property that expands our capacity and meets our needs for the future. This would not only put our existing parish property to its highest and best use,but would also meet our obligation to be good and responsible stewards by using parish resources directly for the planning and construction of this project, rather than on the high costs of land acquisition.

In the upcoming months,as we develop the master plan, we will be providing you with more details about how this exciting project will look.

I look forward to your continued support of our Lady of Guadalupe Parish as we move forward together. Please continue to fulfill your pledges and keep OLOG in your prayers.

With thanks and togetherness in Christ, I am sincerely yours,

Fr. Craig W.M. Friedley
Pastor
